Scottsdale Dustless Tile Removal. Fix Grout Cracks

Scottsdale Dustless Tile Removal. Fix Grout Cracks

How do I go about repairing grout cracks? Professionally installed tile and grout should allow for tile floors' normal expansion and contraction. On the other hand, even minor vibrations can cause the grout to split and collapse.

If the grout cracks for whatever reason, it is imperative that the cracked grout be replaced before the surrounding tiles are harmed.

While wear and tear can lead grout to break, the issue could also be caused by uneven or insecure flooring. So before you follow the steps below, have a Scottsdale dustless tile removal contractor look into the source of the problem.

How to Repair Cracked Tile Grout

Measure the width of the grout lines on your tile floor. If the lines are less than an eighth of an inch wide, you'll need unsanded epoxy or acrylic latex grout. For grout lines wider than one-eighth of an inch, sanded grout is necessary.

The exception to this rule is marble tile flooring. Since it scrapes the surface, use epoxy or acrylic latex instead of sanded grout.

Take a tiny piece of the broken grout with you to a tile or home improvement store. Replace the old grout with a color that is similar to the sample.

  1. It may be feasible to create a perfect match in the grout shade by using water when mixing the grout, but this may affect the texture and structural integrity of the grout.
  2. Combine 1 tbsp. White vinegar and 1 tbsp. Water in a mixing bowl. This combination can be used to clean the cracked grout.
  3. Cut the damaged grout with a grout saw.
  4. Insert the blade of the saw, which looks like a screwdriver or a round handle with a saw on end, into the damaged grout joint.
  5. Cut the grout with the saw as it moves along the joint. If the grout is difficult to remove, the grout saw should be pushed harder along the joint.
  6. Take extreme caution not to scratch the tiles.
  7. Wipe the grout line with a damp paper towel to clean it. Remove any water that has accumulated in the grout lines. Keep the sides of the tile slightly moist to help the grout bond to the tiles.
  8. Follow the instructions on the packaging to add the necessary amount of water to the grout you choose. Pre-mixed grout contains the proper quantities of sand and Portland cement.
  9. Pour water into a disposable mixing container with the grout. When the grout has reached the proper consistency, it should form a ball. Push the grout into the joints with a grout float. Smooth the joint with the rounded end of a craft stick.
  10. Wipe the surface of the surrounding tiles with a clean, damp sponge. Rinse the sponge frequently to avoid smearing grout on nearby tiles.
  11. Allow the grout to dry according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Temperature and humidity can alter drying periods.
  12. Wipe off the entire surface of the surrounding tiles with a soft cloth. If the cloth doesn't work, use your water and vinegar solution to remove the markings. Wipe this mixture all over the tile with a clean sponge, then dry it with a clean cloth.
  13. Following the manufacturer's recommendations, apply a grout sealant with a bit of paintbrush. Allow the grout sealer to cure completely before continuing.
