Chandler Dustless Tile Removal. How to Fix Grout Cracks

Chandler Dustless Tile Removal. How to Fix Grout Cracks

How do I go about fixing cracks in grout? The typical expansion and contraction of tile flooring should be allowed by professionally installed tile and grout. However, even slight vibrations can cause the grout to crack and collapse.

If the grout breaks for whatever reason, it is time to replace the cracked grout before the surrounding tiles are damaged.

While grout can crack due to wear and tear, the problem could also be caused by uneven or unstable flooring. Ask a Chandler dustless tile removal contractor to investigate the cause of the problem before you follow the instructions below.

How to Restore Tile Grout Cracks

Measure the breadth of your tile floor’s grout lines. You will need unsanded epoxy or acrylic latex grout if the lines are less than an eighth of an inch wide. Sanded grout is required for grout lines wider than one-eighth of an inch. Marble tile flooring is an exception to this rule. Because sanded grout scrapes the surface, use epoxy or acrylic latex instead.

  1. Take a small piece of the damaged grout to a tile or home improvement store with you. Replace the old grout with the same color as the sample.
  2. It may be possible to use water when you mix the grout to achieve a perfect match in the grout shade, but this may compromise the texture and structural integrity of the grout.
  3. Take 1 tbsp. white vinegar + 1 tbsp. water and mix. Clean the fractured grout with this concoction.
  4. Using a grout saw, cut the damaged grout.
  5. Insert the saw’s blade, which resembles a screwdriver or a round handle with a saw on the end, into the broken grout joint.
  6. Move the saw along the joint to cut the grout. The grout saw needs to be pushed harder along the joint if the grout is difficult to remove.
  7. Note: Take exceptional care not to scratch the tiles.
  8. To clean the grout line, dab it with a damp paper towel. Remove any standing water in the grout lines. To assist the grout, bind to the tiles, keep the sides of the tile slightly damp.
  9. To add the correct amount of water to the grout you chose, follow the package guidelines. The right proportions of sand and Portland cement are included in pre-mixed grout.
  10. In a disposable mixing container, add water to the grout. When the grout is the right consistency, it should hold together in a ball. Using a grout float, push the grout into the joint. Using the rounded end of a craft stick, smooth the joint.
  11. With a clean, moist sponge, wipe the surface of the surrounding tiles. To avoid smearing grout onto adjacent tiles, rinse the sponge often.
  12. Allow the grout to dry according to instructions. Drying times may be affected by temperature and humidity.
  13. With a soft cloth, clean the surface of the surrounding tiles entirely. If the cloth doesn’t work, remove marks using your water and vinegar solution. With a clean sponge, wipe this mixture all over the tile, and then, using a clean cloth, wipe it dry.
  14. Use a small paintbrush to apply a grout sealant according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Allow the grout sealer to dry before proceeding.
